Badass is the best word I've seen regarding his playing.

You can feel his posture at the drums by listening to these tracks. Upright, slamming and grooving, and badass.

there are two guys from toronto, from the 80's similar to this.

mike slotzky, and jorn anderson, i think that's how you spell it.
i love this approach, fat, huge and laying it down collectively as a whole, all the note values are long from everyone.

I believe the Dream Weaver tune is with Keltner. The album of the same name is with Keltner & Newmark...and it is BA bigtime! I Love this album and great to play along with.

I love Newmark's work on 'Avalon' & 'Flesh & Blood' (Roxy Music). AND Roger Waters' 'Pro's and Cons of Hitchhiking'.

Great use of space and dynamics! The Waters album has so many shifts & changes & the slower tracks sound great - it's difficult to groove with a real slow tune (well I find it difficult(!). Takes great discipline.
